Tesco are coming

Just heard that Tesco is, after all the months of conflicting rumours, planning to come to Fortune Green to Unit 4 of the Sager development! Before you comment - remember that they don't need PLANNING permission. When the Government Inspector overruled local residents and the Council and allowed the development to have permssion - this included a restaurant and shops - any shops. What they have applied for, however, is LICENSING permission for alcohol sales (off license) from 6.00am till 11.00 pm!
We'd love to know what you think!

  1. I think it is a disaster that Tesco are coming to Fortune Green. Why do they have to have a second shop anyway so close to the one on West End Lane? There is nothing that can be done about it but I won't be shopping there and hope West Hampstead Food and Wine survive. I definitely oppose them getting an alcohol license.

  2. This will only exacerbate problems in Fortune Green Park with its feral youth in the evening. How can the Council even contemplate the sale of alcohol in proximity to the Playcentre and park?
Other than frequenters of the park there is no meaningful footfall in the locality so the presence of Tescos will be reliant on car-borne shoppers, with consequences for local residents. As it is, we should be pressing for 24hr residents parking in the locality.
